How can the local trolley system be more convenient for riders?
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Bay County Public Transit System survey was recently sent out to riders and stakeholders, mainly to see how the local transportation system can improve.
“So I would say everything is on the table right now, we are looking at what the community wants in terms of public transportation,” Transit System Administrator Lamar Hobbs said.
Transit System Administrator Lamar Hobbs says based on the results of the survey so far, the transit system could possibly make changes to existing routes and add more bus stops.
“We certainly are not going to lose service in any way... if we have a bus stop that is not being utilized and our information in our data tells us that that bus stop is not being used then there is a good chance that we are going to reallocate that out to somewhere else,” Hobbs said.
Another possibility is incorporating an app, to make riding the buses more convenient.
“We will not do it if it costs any more to the system or the rider, we want to maintain the current rate level that we have.”
Bay County Commissioner Bill Dozier says the trolley system needs to improve to keep up with the improvements the county is making.
“I think that is one of the steps the trolley is going through, to make it better for the ridership, making it more accessible, making stops adjustable, and making it more convenient for the rider,” Dozier said.
The final results of the survey will be out sometime in the summer.
