PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Good Friday morning everyone!
It’s a quiet start on radar this morning with relatively clear skies on satellite as well. We’ll be off to a mainly sunny, warm and humid, morning in NWFL.
Dress comfortably as temperatures are starting out in the 70s. Humidity is on the high side today as well, and feels like temperatures will quickly shoot up into the 80s once we get a little warming after sunrise. Actual temperatures will reach the 80s by 8am.
Another hot day lies ahead. Highs push up to near 90 on the coast to the low 90s inland. The only exception to the 90 degree mark will be beaches today with an onshore breeze from Gulf water temperatures near 80 to keep them closer to the mid 80s. But once you get a mile or so away from the relatively cooler Gulf, you’ll certainly feel the heat and humidity! Heat indices today reach up to the mid to upper 90s, approaching the triple digits for the hottest spots inland.
That heat and humidity, plus onshore sea breeze, typically sets the stage for some afternoon storm activity. However, with high pressure overhead in combination with a bit more drier air aloft, we’ll only manage to pop off a few scattered storms in the afternoon across I-10.
A pattern change heads our way for the weekend as a backdoor trough moves down the Eastern US. That brings a couple weak frontal boundaries moving into the Southeast, the first passing through Saturday. Widely scattered rain chances develop, especially into the afternoon of our Saturday for both the coast and inland communities.
While the coast gets involved in rain chances for the first time in about a month, they’ll still be hit or miss style storms. So not everyone is guaranteed rain. We’ll get another shot on Sunday as well. Any rain we see this weekend will last for about an hour, with each storm bringing about a quarter to a half inch, isolated spots of up to an inch possible.
For today, mostly to partly sunny skies with an isolated stray shower or two along I-10 or north into the mid to late afternoon. Highs today near 90° with a heat index in the mid to upper 90s. Your 7 Day Forecast keeps us running mainly dry over the next several days with plenty of heat and humidity.
