PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Panama City Beach officials are putting a stop to what they call “parking lot parties.” Council members said the Panama City Police Department is spending too much time breaking up large gatherings outside local businesses.

At Thursday’s city council meeting, council members adopted four ordinances, all looking to buckle down on these parties.

Those businesses who violate the city’s noise ordinance will be fined $500 instead of $100 on the first offense. They’re also upping the fines for having alcoholic beverages in commercial parking lots.

“We had a lot of feedback from the residents that wanted us to do something about it. So, I feel like by increasing these fines, that it will make the businesses step up and do their part as well,” Councilman Paul Casto said.

Council members are asking businesses to step up and hire some sort of security if they’re having problems handling these gatherings.
