2D Sports Returns to the Panama City Beach Sports Complex
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -The Panama City Beach Sports Complex has played host to the 2D Sports Florida Panhandle Opener for the past few days.
2D had 20 teams competing in the 12U, 16U, and 18U divisions from all over the country including, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.
According to tournament director, Stephen Castello, it’s the ones making the calls that help set 2D Sports apart from the rest.
“We’re going to have good umpires that make the game flow,” said Castello. “They make the game competitive, and it gives the guys kind of a look at what it’s going to be like at the next level, especially for the high school guys when we have college umpires come down. They get a feel for how the game is going to flow and what the strike zone is going to be like and the speed of the game.”
He also said it isn’t hard to convince teams to make the trek to the Panhandle.
“It’s really easy to tell some one to come out to the beach for four days and hang out on the sand for a week, and teams love that opportunity. When you have a nice facility that’s run by a great staff, people love coming out here.”
The tournament started on Thursday and will finish out on Sunday afternoon.
