WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - This weekend is one of the busiest of the year in Walton County.

Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, Walton County rentals and condos are at 96 percent capacity.

That’s higher than Okaloosa which is at 93 percent and Bay which is at 85 percent.

Key Data analyst Jason Sprenkle said part of the reason for Walton County’s lead is because people still feel more comfortable staying in rental homes after the pandemic.

“I think it’s two things really if you look around the vacation rental space right now: one is you’ve still got some of the other lodging alternatives that aren’t experiencing the same kind of demand that vacation rentals are, which are foundational to Walton County,” Sprenkle said.

The top drive markets to Walton County are Atlanta, Birmingham, Dallas, and Houston.

People from Dallas are spending the most money on average.
