Arnold alum, and Louisville Cardinal, Lucas Dunn is picked in the 8th round of the MLB Draft
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Monday was an eventful day for Arnold and current Louisville Cardinal baseball player, Lucas Dunn.
The former Marlin was picked by the San Diego Padres at 250 overall in the 8th round.
This year, Dunn had a batting average of .266, 31 RBI, and six homers.
His pick slot value is $163,900.
Lucas and his family celebrated at Off the Hook in Panama City Beach where he said the call was a dream come true.
“It was a crazy feeling. So many emotions going through my mind. It happened so fast. I didn’t know until about a minute before that I was actually going to get to be a Padre, but I’m just so thankful for everyone that has helped throughout the way, and so excited to get this journey started. "
For his dad, Gary, he was surprised at how quickly everything happened, but knew it was a long time coming.
“Everything happened really fast, and it was pretty emotional at the house to think about where we’ve come from in this town, coming up through the baseball ranks and going to Louisville to play baseball and dealing with a very tough COVID year last year and the draft, and then coming back and doing it again. We’re just so thankful and appreciative that everything happened the way it did and happy to be a Padre.”
Lucas will head to Arizona in the next couple of days for a physical and find out where he’s head next after that.
