Community holds send-off for local Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Ruby Tilghman
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - It’s not every day a local teen becomes a pageant queen but one Bay County resident is making quite the name for herself.
Earlier this month, local North Bay Haven High School student Ruby Tilghman was crowned Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen.
For Tilghman, she says this is a dream come true, and all this month she has been on the go.
Well, Saturday family and friends gathered at a local venue to give her a proper sendoff as she prepares for Miss America Teen in Orlando later this month.
”For me living in Panama City, I count it as a huge blessing for me. Having so many people behind me, supporting me. Right now we’re actually at the Panama City Center for the Arts. Which has always been a very part of our community, and it’s really important that I think people understand that it’s not just me and my competition, it’s all for the people that have poured into me up to this point,” said Tilghman.
Someone who knows firsthand how people have poured into Ruby is her mother.
”We have a very very supportive family and Ruby has a supportive set of mentors that make sure she’s in the proper mindset.
But, like I said she’s an extremely hard worker and she has a relationship with Christ that’s stronger than most adults I know; and I think that’s where most of her strength comes from,” said Nancy Tillman, Ruby’s mother.
Ruby’s platform is “Many Mini Musicians” an organization she founded at the age of 12 to fund fine arts programs in public schools. Along with her work for the platform, ruby also uses her title to encourage young people to feel confident in their skin and that everybody is beautiful.
