Artful imagination in this week’s Summertime Learning
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - At Gypsy Beach Treasured Kreations, imagination can be found throughout the shop, especially in its art studio.
“There’s nothing better than imagination,” Kathie Smith, the Owner of Gypsy Beach Treasured Kreations, said.
It offers a number of classes for all age groups, such as sip and paint sessions for adults, and art camps for children.
One little artist, 7-year-old Emily Hughes, visits the shop as often as she can.
“You get to use your imagination and it really doesn’t matter, because there’s nobody to say you have to paint this,” Hughes said.
Her favorite craft?
“I like the glue art a lot actually, I like that one a lot and the melted crayons.”
Her favorite color?
“It’s easy, yellow.”
“Emily is probably my best advertisement. She’s here at least once a week. She’s painted everything in the room at least once if not twice. She’s just a lot of fun,” Smith said.
Smith has a saying for kids and adults who feel they may not have an artsy “bone” in their body.
“Creativity is not a bone, it’s a state of mind.”
A key member of the studios is art educator Roberta Nowell.
“She’s very educational. She teaches you the technique, what brushes you use, how much paint you use, what brush stroke you use,” Smith said.
The duo artists have a saying in their studio: “There are no mistakes in art, it’s just happy little indifferences.”
Gypsy Beach Treasured Kreations encourages families to stop by as open sessions are still available for children every Friday and plans to move those sessions to Saturday as school resumes this fall.
For parents or anyone interested in signing up for an art session visit the location at 1107 Beck Avenue in Panama City. You can also visit their Facebook page or contact Kathie at (904) 451-3071.
