PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Good Thursday morning everyone!

It’s a somewhat quiet start on satellite and radar for a change. We do have clear skies inland. However, south of HWY20 and down along the coast are a few scattered stray showers. They’ll be around the coast through much of the morning, hit or miss, and periodic. So go ahead and grab the umbrella for the morning drive, or you could just wait out these 10min showers.

Otherwise, it’s a warm and humid start with a scorchin’ hot day ahead. Highs today reach the low 90s with feels like temperatures in the triple digits.

We’ll have plenty of sunshine in between small scattered and brief passing showers today. After the morning round, largely south of HWY20, we’ll see a few possible for the late afternoon commute across I-10 and the Wiregrass. Rain chances today are around 30-40%.

High pressure is building in across the Gulf today and that’s helping to limit the number and size of our passing showers. We’ll see this ridge slide to our west tonight and into tomorrow. That will change up our steering flow on Friday, drawing in from the northwest.

With the ridge slightly removed from our area to the west tomorrow as well, we’ll be able to develop more scattered afternoon storms. They’ll be widely scattered for the coast and inland. The northerly steering wind may help push any inland storms down to the coast into the evening as well.

Bottom Line...

For today, mostly sunny skies with brief passing showers possible south of HWY20 and around the coast in the morning, across I-10 late in the day. Highs today reach the low 90s with a heat index in the low triple digits. Your 7 Day Forecast has an unsettled afternoon, especially for the coast on Friday, with rain chances diminishing into the upcoming weekend.
