Small airplane lands on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County
Santa Rosa County, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -The Florida Highway Patrol says troopers received a call around 7:30 p.m on Sunday concerning a small airplane that hand landed on Interstate 10 between mile marker 39 and 40.
Troopers say that witnesses had observed the small aircraft circling the area prior to landing.
According to FHP when troopers arrived on the scene they were surprised to find the airplane located safely on the shoulder. Troopers said that the pilot of the aircraft was not harmed.
Troopers say that the pilot informed them the plane had run out of fuel and he had to do an emergency landing.
“It’s not every day we respond to an airplane on the interstate,” said Lieutenant Jason King, Public Affairs Officer.
FHP added that they have contacted and informed the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board of the situation.
