Bay High School celebrates the groundbreaking of the new fine arts center
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay District School officials celebrated breaking ground on the new Barbara W. Nelson Fine Arts Center Tuesday morning.
The area outside of Bay High School might just seem like a blank canvas now but soon the building will be filled with music, art, and the theater.
The building is also dedicated to long-time resident Barbara Nelson who loved the arts.
“My mother was a painter, an artist, and just very talented. We wanted to do it in their honor and they would be very proud to have it so the students have artistic avenues they can pursue if they needed or wanted to,” Bubba Nelson, a member of the Nelson family, said.
School board officials say they’ve been working on the idea for this project since 2015.
The fine arts center will be located right next to the new STEM building at the high school.
