PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Her business is blowing up. As a result, she hopes it blows up. Megan Manchester blows up balloons, and a lot of them, out of her Panama City home.

“I had a girlfriend that kind of talked me into it when I was in Dallas not too long ago and [I] ordered some balloons off of Amazon and kind of gave it a try and I loved it,” said Manchester. “I got to be creative with it, so that’s kind of what got me into it.”

She hopes to make a go of it full-time.

“I’ve always just had an entrepreneurial spirit, so wanting to start new things here and there, whether it’s a project around the house or a company like balloons,” said Manchester.

Manchester plans events and trade shows by day. She said give her an Excel spreadsheet and she’ll, well, excel. Creating balloon arrangements on the other hand...

“I’ve never even considered myself to be an artist and used to always tell myself I don’t think I had a very creative bone in my body, but this is definitely pulling it out of me,” said Manchester.

Manchester said she creates balloon arrangements for weddings, birthday parties, graduations, baby showers, grand openings, corporate events...the list goes on.

“It’s crazy! So busy!” said Manchester. “I was not expecting it to be as quick as it already has become. Kind of just wanting to know if there’s ever a slow period, but there’s no slow period right now.”

She says she created her first arrangement in May. It’s been expanding ever since no pun intended.

“I think just growing it to a point where I can eventually hire one to two new employees underneath me and then having the brick and mortar store,” said Manchester.

So how did she learn to create these inflatable masterpieces?

“I think it’s a little bit of both from my planning side of my full-time career along with YouTube,” said Manchester. “YouTube is a magical place and Google as well. I’m just pulling like inspirational pics and learning from there, and then other balloon artists around the states and other countries that do this and just learning from them as well.”

And if a balloon pops?

“Very easy to replace,” said Manchester. “I always bring extra inventory of balloons on site with me.”

She said once she starts creating an arrangement, it can take 2-4 hours to complete.

“I know the first few times I created a garland it took me way longer than it does now,” Manchester said. “Everything is custom. They kind of come to me with an idea and then they send me pictures of their house or the venue that they’re going to be at, and then I offer suggestions.”

And the feedback has her sky-high.

“Everything has been great!” said Manchester. “I think it is...[I] blow them out of the water with the balloon pieces and decor and creativity that I put into their design.”

A creativity that’s made her look inward and do a double-take.

“So now that I can see this in me, it kind of pulls out different characters of myself, which is really great,” said Manchester.

And that should pump anyone up.

Manchester’s company is called Balloon Art Events 30A. She says she gets a lot of her work by word of mouth.
