PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -A city that’s known for boating is down a floating dock for the next few days. The dock at St. Andrews Marina has been declared unsafe.

“It was damaged recently in Hurricane Sally last year,” said Sean DePalma, director of quality of life for Panama City. “It was still stable but it started to come apart so we have shut it down.”

Repairs on the dock began this week.

“We replaced some of the floating mechanisms in the floating dock, we poured concrete and now we have designed brackets that have been ordered we are going to mount those to ensure the stability. Then the dock will be back open to the public,” said DePalma.

Floating docks play a key role in assisting people in getting on and off the boat. Officials added they expect the dock to reopen next week.

“Panama City is a boating community and to have features that allow you to get in and out of the bay easily with your vessel is just an added amenity,” said DePalma.

Panama City officials added there are docks at the Panama City Marina and Carl Gray Park has two boat ramps and three docks to get on and off of your boat.
