LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Mallie Rudd Jackson, better known as ‘Big Mama’ in her community will turn 100 years old on August 4th.

“The reason I got this old, I just lived a good life,” Jackson said.

Jackson was born on August 4, 1921, on a rural farm on the outskirts of Alford, Florida.

During her life in Lynn Haven she’s raised four children, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and currently has five great-great-grandchildren.

“She is the glue to all of us, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, everybody. I don’t know what we would do without her,” Monique Griffin, Jackson’s granddaughter said.

“She’s loving, she’s kind, she’s very compassionate,” Danielle Woodall, Jackson’s great-granddaughter said.

Some of Mallie’s fondest memories of Lynn Haven include building their family house on 1408 Alabama Avenue, where she has lived since 1949.

Jackson says she lived her life the best way she knows how.

”Just do the best you can and work hard to live a good nice, nice good life. that’s all I’ve done,” said Jackson.

Some of Mallie’s interests and hobbies included gardening, baking cakes, sewing clothes, and volunteering in the church when she was younger. She remains an avid reader of the bible.

She has always had a passion for singing and was her church’s choir leader. she loved traveling with the family singing group, the Jackson’s, to churches all over Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

“I can’t help but believe the world is a better place because my momma sang a song,” Donnie Jackson, Jackson’s oldest son said.

One thing Jackson says she holds dear to her heart is the love she has for others.

“I love everybody, I mean I’ve always loved people,” Jackson said.

Jackson is the only member in her family that will have lived to be 100 years of age.
