Two dead in Washington County storms

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Early morning storms moving through the Panhandle have left two people dead and two people injured in Washington County.

A possible tornado touched down Thursday morning in the Gilbert’s Mill Road, Achie Road and Jewel Drive area. Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews says at least six homes have been destroyed and at least six have been damaged. There are multiple power lines and trees down in the Alford area, and crews are expected to work through the night making repairs.

“Washington county is a strong, strong county,” Crews said. “The residents of this county will come together, we’ll get through it. It’s been pretty devastating with the damage we got, and then on top of that to lose two of our citizens, I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty rough on everybody right now, but we’re going to get through it.”

First responders are still on the scene assessing the damage.

The Red Cross will be setting up at the Orange Hill Fire Department in Washington County to assist those impacted by the storms.
