Bozeman getting set for third straight tough road test
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -It is going to be another tough test this week for one of this area’s team undefeated teams, the Bozeman Bucks. Coach Griffin and his guys now 8-0 thanks to a win at Chipley Friday, and now looking ahead to a trip west to Holmes this week to face a 7-1 Blue Devils team. The Tigers going into that game last Friday with a 5-1 mark, so everyone knew that was going to be a very difficult test for the Bucks. A second straight such test, given they won the week before down at Port St. Joe, a team that went into that game with a 4-2 record. And again, now they’re preparing to take on Holmes, and a team that has won seven in a row. About as tough a stretch of schedule as any team on the 1-R level will take on this season!
“Not a lot of people go into Port Saint Joe, and come out with a win.” Bozeman head coach Jason Griffin told me during a Monday Zoom call. “Chipley was riding an 11 game home win, streak, not a lot of folks go in there and win. So to have, to beat both those teams on the road you know that’s a pretty good feather in your cap. You know we said we were going from the frying pan into the fire. Well now we’re going into homes. I don’t know what you called that. The hits just keep on coming for us. We’ve got another tough one this week so I’m interested to see how our kids will respond.”
So the huge road win at Chipley Friday, preceded by another huge road win at Port St. Joe the week before. And again taking Bozeman to the perfect 8 and oh mark. By far the best start, and the best run in program history. I asked the coach is the results of the last two weeks has left his players with an increased sense of pride in what they’ve done this season?
“Yeah, you know looking at them this morning there is a quiet confidence. You know there’s no, I don’t see any signs of guys being complacent, or content. You know, but I do see a quiet confidence about them. They say hey man they feel like really maybe we are pretty good. And you know you’ve got to prove that. And we’ve said all along you know, we played some games early that you know weren’t against some of the better teams this year, you know guys that are having tougher seasons. But when you go into a Port Saint Joe and you go into a Chipley and you come out of there winning those tough battles, you know your guys start thinking hey, maybe there is something here. So I see that quiet confidence about them.”
Coach Kevin Womble and his Blue Devils are coming off a 41-0 win at Liberty. They’ve not lost since the opener at Marianna. And the Devils have won their last four games by a combined 205-48, so they’re rolling. The game at Memorial Field set for 7 and is one of several we’ll feature on Friday Night Overtime.
