Freedom Friday: Three women create podcast about addiction
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Three women personally impacted by addiction created a podcast to open up the dialogue about the ever-present and deadly problem.
Isolation and defeat are often associated with addiction, whether you’re the loved one of an addict, or an addict yourself.
Three women are stepping up to the microphone to help change that.
Nicole, Cathy, and Jennifer all have different backgrounds.
Nicole says she was in the event marketing business where she worked different concerts and was in Nashville, Tennessee for some time.
Evers House Founder, Cathy McClellan says she and her husband are builders and real estate brokers.
She says she’s been working with women in recovery for a long time.
You may recognize an overcomer of addiction, Jennifer Cosson, from a previous Freedom Friday segment, who is also the case manager for Evers House.
Something the three share is knowing the pain addiction can cause.
“Sometimes I felt like I was the only person on the planet that had this going on,” Cathy said.
“There’s so many things that go on with drug addiction. The taboo name, you know, the stigma,” she added.
The trio came together with a mission to make sure no one else felt the way they had, so they came up with a podcast.
It’s called EverSoDope, recovery, raunchy, raw, and real.
Some of the content you’ll hear on EverSoDope covers things we can’t tell you on TV.
“Can we say that?” the women all said, laughing.
“It’s definitely rated R or M for mature,” Jennifer said.
“It is and we do we give a disclaimer on there. This isn’t for the, you know, youngsters, that needs to be an adult that pays attention because the things that we deal with, overdose death, death, drug addiction, sex,” Cathy added.
Getting into the nitty gritty isn’t just to grab your attention, but to potentially help save lives.
“This is a such a big hot topic right now with the fentanyl and the deaths,” Cathy said referencing the nationwide epidemic.
The trio hopes to open the mic and the dialogue, so more people will reach towards health, life, recovery, and ultimately freedom.
