Bay County Commissioner addresses Gulf World conditions

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -After hearing public outcry over Gulf World Marine Park conditions one local Bay County Commissioner decided to investigate the park herself.

According to Bay County Commissioner, Clair Pease, she first visited the park on March 21, and then again on the 23rd. (RELATED: Gulf World Marine Park Inc. files for bankruptcy)

The day after her second visit, Commissioner Pease felt it was necessary to meet with Panama City Beach officials about what she saw.

“There were different things that were leaking from the different enclosures. There were enclosures that had obvious large foundation cracks, and then where you could see rebar showing, and cracks in the stucco, you know, paint is missing on the edge of some of the dolphin areas where the dolphins are. I think the thing that really bothered me most was the algae blooms that were growing in the tank where the dolphin were,” said Pease.

Pease says she hopes to see Gulf World one day return to a Panama City Beach staple.

Gulf World Marine Park has since filed for bankruptcy relief under the provisions of Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the District of Delaware.
