(CNN) - A tour boat crew rescued a dog that authorities say got swept miles out to sea on an inflatable kayak.

The crew with Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, which operates off the coast of England, heard a Coastguard call reporting a dog had been swept out to sea by strong winds.

The crew found the dog, a German shepherd named Bruce, floating alone in an inflatable kayak roughly 2.5 miles offshore. They brought Bruce aboard and wrapped him in a towel, keeping him safe and warm as they made their way back to dry land.

The dog was then reunited with his grateful owner.
