850 GOOD NEWS: Beach proposal along 30A brings families together for couple’s ‘yes’
High school sweethearts from McKinney, Texas get engaged on the Emerald Coast surrounded by family and strangers alike
SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A couple visiting the Emerald Coast returned home engaged after a beach proposal along 30A drew cheers from family, friends, and hundreds of beachgoers.
Jaden and Kirsten, high school sweethearts from McKinney, Texas, have been together for seven years. The stretch of coastline along 30A has long been a family tradition for Kirsten, making it the location Jaden chose when he began planning the proposal.
“I kind of knew this would be a great place to do it — it’s her happy place,” Jaden said. “I love being out there, it’s just a great environment and we love everything in the area of 30A.”
As the sun set over the Gulf, Jaden got down on one knee surrounded by both families, who had flown in for the occasion, along with a crowd of beachgoers who joined in the celebration.
“I didn’t envision there being that many people out there, but everyone was saying congrats when I was walking out there,” Jaden said. “Of course, when she said yes and everybody started clapping and celebrating, it was a good experience and environment to be in.”
Kirsten said the moment felt personal despite the crowd.
“It was such an amazing moment, and I feel like it went by so fast,” Kirsten said. “It felt like it was just us two on the beach even though all those people were there — and turning around to see my whole family and his whole family that flew in for all of this, it was literally a fairy tale.”
She added that sharing the moment with strangers made it more meaningful.
“Celebrating with people you don’t even know but are just there for you and just so happy for your love — it was so special,” Kirsten said.
The couple said they are now enjoying wedding planning and hope to one day bring their own children back to the Emerald Coast, continuing the family tradition.
