Mercy Multiplied set to break ground on Santa Rosa Beach facility
SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)— Mercy Multiplied, an international organization founded in 1983 to help women struggling with abuse, addiction, and mental health issues, is expanding to the Florida Panhandle.
The organization will break ground on a 30,000-square-foot facility in Santa Rosa Beach on Thursday.
Mercy Multiplied bought the property in 2007 and aims to build the home debt-free.
Mercy Multiplied houses women ages 13 to 32 free of charge. The organization provides a faith-based environment for women to recover through a six- to nine-month process.
Nancy Alcorn is the founder and president of Mercy Multiplied.
“To see them come in and receive life and to understand that they have a future and hope,” Alcorn said. “And that they can do whatever they want to do. They can go to college. They’re overcomers now. They can be world-changers, history-makers.”
Alcorn said about 5,000 young women have come through the program.
“Literally 5,000 young women have come and still counting,” Alcorn said.
For Alcorn, Mercy Multiplied is a lifelong passion.
“The biggest joy of my life is to watch young women over the four decades come in really wanting to die because they had no hope and seeing them come alive,” Alcorn said. “Seeing them realize they can be forgiven and loved.”
“I’ve always been in love with this part of the country, so it feels in some ways like coming home,” Alcorn said. “I know the need is great, and I’m so excited that we now have this location to serve this part of the country.”
Mercy Multiplied receives no federal funding. The organization said it relies on donations from individuals, businesses, churches, family foundations, and donor-advised funds.
Mercy Multiplied aims to provide women with a homey environment.
“Beautiful decor,” Alcorn said. “I want it to be homey, non-institutional, and I want everything the young women to see to speak to them that they have value and they deserve something so special.”
Mercy Multiplied hopes to complete the home in 2028.
The groundbreaking ceremony is Thursday at 4 p.m., followed by a reception.
