County employee killed in worksite accident

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)-- UPDATE 2:30 pm February 16, 2017

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say Richard Douglas Robinson, 59, of Panama City, is the Bay County Road and Bridges worker killed this morning in a worksite accident in Fountain.

Robinson was part of a work crew doing maintenance on the 4th street.

Troopers say Robinson was walking along the north shoulder of 4th street when a dump truck backing up behind him didn't see him and ran him over.

Robinson was taken to a local hospital where he died.

The investigation into the case continues.

A Bay County Roads and Bridges employee was killed Thursday morning in what's being called a "worksite accident."

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into what happened. It happened just after 8am at the corner of 4th April street and April Avenue in Fountain. The victim's name hasn't been released.

Bay County did issue a statement on the accident which reads: "The Bay County Board of County Commissioners extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of the employee. Our prayers go out to the family and, while the accident is still under investigation, the needs of the employee’s family and our workers is our primary focus at this time. We will provide grief counseling to Bay County employees affected by this incident."
