BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - School starts for many students in August and one local organization wants to help make sure they have what they need for the first day.
PanCare of Florida packed 1,000 backpacks Monday for kids who attend Cedar Grove Elementary, Hiland Park Elementary, Oscar Patterson Elementary, Springfield Elementary, Jinks Middle School, Bay High School, and Rosenwald High.
The bags have folders, notebooks, pencils, erasers, and pencil sharpeners inside them.
PanCare is a non-profit organization that provides medical and dental services throughout Northwest Florida. They have clinics around the area as well as mobile buses.
Dental staff, corporate, and medical staff volunteered their time to help pack the bags at an office in Panama City.
"Well we're doing a lot of the schools that are a lot of Medicaid based, lower income schools that kids wouldn't otherwise have the supplies that they need," Ashley Ortega, Marketing Coordinator for PanCare Health said.
The backpacks are custom designed with the schools' logos and school colors.
PanCare will drop off 300 backpacks at Jinks Middle School Wednesday at their back to school rally. The event lasts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
