Bear staying in tree at NSA Panama City

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Public Affairs Officer Edward Buczek, someone reported seeing a bear Wednesday around 7 a.m. at Naval Support Activity Panama City.

He’s been staying in a tree since then.

Buczek said the juvenile male bear about 150 pounds.

Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are on scene.

They reportedly set a trap and are waiting for the bear to come down.

Officials ask the public to give it space and stay away from the bear. Bears aren't usually aggressive, but it's more likely to come down if there aren't any distractions.

Residents on base were informed a bear was in the neighborhood Wednesday morning.
