House Bill 2359 could help Mexico Beach restore its shoreline

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Hurricane Michael all but wiped out Mexico Beach's coastline, but lawmakers want to help fix that.

House Bill 2359 would help give Mexico Beach the money it needs to completely overhaul its beaches.

Florida Representative Jay Trumbull requested $25 million for the city to rebuild its shoreline.

Trumbull said, "In this scenario, money helps significantly. Everything, from the beaches that bring people to our area to the infrastructure that brings people to those beaches, and everything in between were affected."

If passed, the money would come from Florida's general revenue fund and be given to the Department of Environmental Protection for the project.
