VERNON, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - Jewel Vincent has become a local celebrity in Vernon, Florida. The 13-year old, who has down syndrome, is a 7th grader at Vernon Middle School. She hit a home run in her team's game against Grand Ridge Middle School. Her teammates were behind the viral video.

"It was the girls' idea. They're all for it, they're excited and a week ahead, when we knew what we were gonna do it, I mean that's all they looked forward to," Heather Brinkmeier, softball coach at Vernon Middle School, said.

Jewel's mother believes that Jewel can do anything she sets her mind to.

"There's nothing that holds her back. From riding a horse, to softball, to cheering, to riding her 4-wheelers, to cooking, and to being the biggest boss she is because she is a boss," Betty Dybdall, Jewel's mother, said.

The video has more than 10,000 views and Jewel was happy to be interviewed. She enjoys being a coach as well as a player. She encourages her teammates to do push-ups, run, and dance. Jewel also loves to sign autographs.
