A student at Bay High School is showing what it means to be 850 strong by excelling in school and in the community.

Ana Barragan is a senior at Bay High School. She has an average weighted GPA of 4.7 and is Bay High's student government president, but it's what she shows outside the classroom that has made her Newschannel 7's first 850Strong Student of the Week.

Ana's teacher Megan Todd said, "I think that she does everything that she could possibly do for our school and our community, and I think that we all here at Bay High are blessed to have her."

Ana has more than 700 hours of community service. She has helped homeless students in her school, volunteered at a food pantry, and spent time with patients at Bay Medical Center.

Ana said "Streetlights is one of my favorites actually because it's a program that helps with homeless kids in our schools especially at Bay High, we do have a lot of homeless kids with streetlights for the Christmas break we made like little goodie bags and we got to give those to them."

Ana is also a part of several different clubs and organizations.

She's able to stay up to date with all of her club meetings, homework assignments, and volunteer events by doing one thing.

Ana said, "I put everything in my planner and I make sure to organize it so I can do everything, and then I go home and do all the homework that needs to be done, I try not to procrastinate."

So what's next for Ana after graduating?

She said, "I was accepted and I plan on attending Yale University this upcoming Fall, I'm very excited for this opportunity to be able to represent my city up in a big university and then eventually I'd love to go to law school and become a lawyer and a political adviser."

The future is certainly bright for this 850Strong Student of the Week.
