PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - Many businesses in Panama City Beach have opened back up since Hurricane Michael, but one popular restaurant remains closed.
Firefly on Richard Jackson Boulevard sustained major damage from the storm. Part of the restaurant's roof came off, causing water damage to the inside.
The kitchen has to be completely redone, the carpets, drywall, and paint all have to be fixed. Owner Dave Trepanier says the damage is more than a million dollars' worth, but they have been working every day to reopen.
"We'll be back, we are going to do some exciting new things. We aren't going to reinvent the wheel here, all your old favorites, but we are going to use this as an opportunity to maybe change up the menu and change up the interior," Trepanier said.
The famous tree that stands in the middle of the restaurant is okay and the collection of guitars also made it through the storm. Trepanier says he's hopeful the restaurant will be back open in early spring.
