Allegiant Airways bringing new terminal to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport
The Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is taking its service to new heights.
Tuesday at the Okaloosa County Commission meeting, board member approved VPS's newest expansion.
Allegiant Airways is building a new terminal at the airport to expand the flight path to and from the area.
Allegiant is fully funding the project, then once the airline reaches over its base passenger level, around 190,000 people, individuals will pay an additional $9 so Allegiant makes its money back.
Commissioners say an airway investing so much into an airport is unheard of.
“I’ve never heard of this in the entire airport industry and so we are so excited that they are building one because that really shows that they are dedicated to remaining here we are a hub, we have at all times two large airplanes... on the ground. So if there’s ever a maintenance issue you do not have to wait," said Okaloosa County Commissioner and Aviation Board Liaison Carolyn Ketchel.
Now that the board has approved the terminal, the construction path will start taking shape.
