Area correctional officer arrested; allegedly introduced drugs into prison

WEWAHITCHKA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Officials with The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) say a correctional officer with Gulf Correctional Institution has been arrested.

On May 24th, Officer Julia Eagerton allegedly introduced narcotics into the prison in her bra and inside her tampon, according to an arrest affidavit.

The affidavit also stated that on May 26th, Officer Eagerton was confronted by security staff as she entered the prison and then escorted to the bathroom to be pat searched.

Once in the bathroom, Eagerton allegedly voluntarily surrendered nine bundles wrapped in black electrical tape. Officials say, the bundles contained more than 334 grams of synthetic cannabinoids (K2).

FDC says Eagerton was arrested and charged with introducing contraband into a state correctional institution, possession of narcotics and unlawful compensation.
