At least 40 cases dismissed after former JCSO deputy allegedly planted drugs
According to the State Attorney's Office, least 40 out of 263 cases have been dismissed following an investigation into a former Jackson County Sheriff's deputy.
State Attorney Glenn Hess said there is video evidence that leads them to believe Zachary Wester planted drugs during traffic stops.
NewsChannel 7/ Local 18 News reached out to Teresa Odom, the woman in the body cam video. She said, "No comment as this is an ongoing investigation."
Officials said Wester previously worked for the Liberty County Sheriff's Office under former Sheriff Nick Finch.
Current Liberty County Sheriff Eddie Joe White said he and his staff are not familiar with Wester.
Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts asked that all questions regarding the investigation be directed to the State Attorney's Office.
According to Chief Assistant State Attorney Larry Basford, any charges Wester may face will not be released until the investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is complete.
Basford said the State Attorney's Office should finish reviewing the 263 cases by late Friday or early next week.
