Authorities arrest 21, search for 4, in connection with drugs trafficked to Florida panhandle

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Twenty-one people were arrested in connection with drug trafficking from south Florida into our area, and four more suspects are at large.

Law enforcement from across Florida and Georgia worked together to make the arrests Thursday.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Okaloosa and Walton County Sheriff's Offices, Drug Enforcement Administration, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Miami-Dade Police Department, and members of the North Florida High Intensity Drug Task Force began investigating after a local drug ring was busted in Okaloosa County.

The group is accused of drug trafficking, specifically prescription painkillers. Authorities say some of the drugs were from pain clinics in South Florida. Investigators believe the suspects were a main source of illegal drugs in the Panhandle and South Florida. Authorities say say they intercepted hundreds of illegal painkillers.
