UPDATE: Officials investigate officer-involved shooting in Panama City Saturday

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATED: Sunday, February 16, at 12:10 p.m.

Panama City police officials say officers responded to a disturbance Saturday near Highway 98 and Arthur Avenue. They say officers tried to make contact with a male leaving the area of the disturbance.

They say the male pulled out a concealed weapon, "placing officers in a
life-threatening situation."

Police say officers tried to stop the subject with nonlethal force, but it did not work. Then an officer fired his weapon. The male was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

Officials say officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an officer-involved shooting Saturday.

Officials with the Panama City Police Department say shots were fired around 7:00 p.m. at U.S. 98 and Foster Avenue in Panama City.

They say a male subject was shot and transferred to the hospital.
