New cases and hospitalizations for the coronavirus have been announced in Bay County, especially in the past few days.

According to the Florida Department of Health, five additional cases of the virus were announced Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in Bay County to 157.

In addition, there have been seven new hospitalizations for COVID-19 since Saturday in Bay County. Local health officials tell us they will continue to monitor the situation.

"Anytime we have new hospitalizations for COVID-19 it can be concerning, but it's something we continue to monitor," Public Information Officer for the Florida Department of Health, Heather Kretzer said. "Our hospitals still have capacity to be able to serve people and if they do have any needs they know they can reach out to us, we will help them, they have their surge plans in place."

Kretzer says even though Florida is in phase two, people still should practice social distancing and wear a mask when necessary.
