PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Bay County Health Department is reinforcing its mosquito-borne illness advisory previously issued in March after an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in Bay County.
The Bay County Health Department says that testing has shown that a flock of sentinel chickens are positive for Eastern equine encephalitis or EEE, this after officials say that two horses tested positive for EEE.
The Bay County Health Department says transmission to humans has increased and want to remind everyone to avoid getting bitten by draining standing water and by using bug spray.
Bay County Mosquito Control, Beach Mosquito Control District, and Bay County Health Department will continue to monitor the situation and continue prevention efforts.
