PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Locals got the chance to take a step back in time and learn some valuable lessons in the process on Monday.

At Grace Presbyterian Church in Panama City, the Bay County Historical Society presented its History of Racism program.

The program featured guest speaker Alvin Peters who broke down the history of racism, not only in the United States, but in Florida and Bay County as well.

"I think race plays a significant role in the lives of Americans, the lives of Bay County especially, and all across the United States. It gives us all the chance to make a difference because too often we have a society that’s really not living up to its full potential," Peters said.

The presentation was one of the Historical Society's many Black History Month events.
