The Bay County Navy League donated $50,000 to support Gulf Coast State College's Summer STEM camp programs. The money will be used to pay for eighth through 10th graders to attend the camp. This is all in an effort to educate students about careers in STEM.
"We chose to do this because there was a need. If you were in the board meeting you heard the statistics of students that aren't interested in STEM," said Director of Corporate Relations for the Bay County Navy League Amanda Willingham. "I think that's a lot to do with they don't know what it is and locally how it can affect their futures."
Registration for the STEM summer camps will begin in March, and the camps will be held in July.
