WASHINGTON D.C. (WJHG/WECP) - Local leaders are still pushing for relief money for our area.
Wednesday afternoon, all five Bay County commissioners took a trip to Washington, D.C. to speak with members of Congress and other federal agencies.
The commissioners have meetings scheduled with Representative Neal Dunn and Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, among others.
Commissioners say they want to make sure Congress doesn't forget about the Panhandle.
Commissioner Philip "Griff" Griffitts said, "We'd just like to encourage members of Congress to put aside all the differences. Pass a standalone bill for the disaster of 2018. This is critical. It's unprecedented to wait this long after what is one of the third most powerful storms to ever hit the United States. We're still dealing with recovery so we encourage them to get to business."
The commissioners are also speaking with the U.S. Census Bureau, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
