Bay County gears up for private property debris removal program to begin

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Some Bay County residents are just a few weeks away from finally having their properties cleaned.

Officials say the private property debris removal program process in Bay County should begin in the beginning of January. (WJHG/WECP)

Approved applicants for the county's private property debris removal program will begin to see their property cleared starting January 1.

The county awarded the $9.5 million contract to CrowderGulf which will remove trees and demolished structures off properties.

Commissioner Philip "Griff" Griffitts said the project will take "probably several months, probably many months. It's a pretty extensive process, it depends on the size of the job and with it being around the county - 700 different situations - there'll have to be a lot of mobilization of the equipment moving it around. So it'll probably take six months or so."

Commissioners clarified language regarding the contract during today's commission meeting to ensure a reimbursement from FEMA.
