Bay District School Board members recognized one of their own Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday marked Joe Wayne Walker's last school board meeting as a board member.

He served Bay District Schools for 49 years as an educator, coach, mentor, and school board member.

Born and raised in Panama City, Walker graduated from Bay High School and attended Gulf Coast State College, West Florida, and Southeastern Louisiana, according to Bay District Schools' website.

He said he wants to thank the voters for having him as a board member.

"It was a humbling experience and I've enjoyed every minute of it and like I said, Bay District Schools has been my whole life and I'm sure it'll continue to be part of my life," Walker said.

After the school board meeting, Walker was presented with an award and a reception.

He was first elected in 2010. Incoming board member Pamm Chapman will take over his seat.
