Bay District School Officials have extended the "Meals on the Bus" meal program through the summer.
School officials say they are able to do so thanks to a partnership with Bay County Emergency Services and Bay County Commissioners.
Starting June 2, the “Meals on the Bus” deliveries will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays, the bus will bring food for Tuesday and Wednesday and on Thursday, the bus bringing a meal box containing five days worth of food.
Officials say Chartwells K12 and BDS have provided more than 605,000 meals since schools shutdown mid-March.
Superintendent Husfelt explained the importance of this program, noting “so many of our families are still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Michael and they depend upon the food served at school. It’s critical that we continue feeding our children and providing this
service.”
