Our very own Newschannel 7 Today's Jessica Foster emceed the event.

The main event of the evening happened at the end of the night, the unveiling of the Teacher of the Year for 2018.

From 40 nominees to five finalists, Cathy Felty, Media Specialist at Margaret K. Lewis School, was named Teacher of the Year.

The dinner and awards sponsors were the Patronis Family, St. Joe Community Foundation, Bay Education Foundation, Edgewater Beach Resort, Thrivent Financial, Wendy Varnum, Horace Mann Insurance, and Association of Bay County Educators.

Felty said she is thankful for the opportunity and sponsors of the event.

"I am very excited, you know, I've never been on a cruise before. It's a bucket list item and I won a cruise, so I'm very excited about that," Felty said.

The evening gave her a chance to reflect on what she enjoys about being involved in education.

"The experiences that the students have, opening opportunities for them, giving them a chance to learn new things that may not have been exposed to before," Felty said.

She told us she has been teaching at Margaret K. Lewis for 21 years and that this is her second time being nominated.
