Over the next two school years, Bay District teachers are going to get some new technology.

At Tuesday's school board meeting, the board voted to approve a two-year plan to provide all teachers including those at charter schools with new Chromebooks in case of another distance learning situation.

Officials say even if everything goes back to normal with instruction, they say it’s good for teachers to stay up to date with technology.

"Teachers need technology in their hands. We’re asking them as a best practice to use technology in their classroom," said Supervisor for Instructional Technology and Media Services Tamra Hogue. "So they deserve a quality instructional tool to work with their teachers as we move forward, not just with distance learning but in their classroom every day."

Officials say the laptops will be paid for with half-cent sales tax money and they hope to place the order this week.
