Bay Town Trolley offers real-time tracking apps, WiFi on board

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay Town Trolley will now allow riders to track buses in real-time.

Passengers can use three smartphone apps (Transit, Google Maps, or Moovit) to find out where the nearest bus is located instead of relying on schedules.

Those apps will tell riders when the trolley is expected to arrive at the closest stop or they can plan upcoming trips.

Riders can also text a number posted at each stop.

"That will tell you the trolley will be arriving in, you know, 19 minutes, or whatever. Or if you don't want to use any of those methods you can actually call the number and they will tell you what time the trolley will be arriving," Bay County Transportation Planning Organization member Pamn Henderson said.

She said bus fares won't go up, and the technology used for the app will enable WiFi for riders on-board.

"Most of the riders, I think 50 percent of the trolley riders are going to work. Twenty percent are going to school," Henderson said. "Then, the others are going to doctor appointments, personal things, but I think this is really going to benefit going to work and school. They can work. They can study while they're on the trolley or they can simply pass the time while they're riding."
