Brantley Byers wins this week's Golden Apple

BAY COUNTY, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - One teacher left her job in banking to teach children their ABC's and 1,2,3's. Congratulations to Mrs. Brantley Byers of Patronis Elementary, this week's Golden Apple winner.

Brantley Byers started her journey at Patronis Elementary as an intern, but went into the banking business after graduation.

Years later while she was staying home to care for her young boys, the school asked if she could help, so she stepped in.

"They ask me to come fill in to be a substitute for half a year for someone on maternity leave and I just loved it and got my certificate and have been here ever since," Byers said.

Now she teaches in the very classroom she interned in.

"I just love seeing the students grow and just get inspired and I like to follow them all the way through," Byers said.

For seven years Byers has been teaching students in the second grade.

"I like to say we explode at learning," Byers said.

And she loves seeing her students soar!

"My first class I taught is now in seventh grade and I still keep in touch. I just love to see them love to learn and grow and see what they'll be one day," Byers said.

All three of her sons attended Patronis, making the elementary school feel like a second home.
