Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium to be held in Marianna

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Later on in October, Jackson Hospital will host the 14th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium.

The event is called "Unmasking Breast Cancer."

One part of the symposium will include a talk about the surgical history of breast cancer. Another segment will focus on genetics.

Jackson Hospital's Chief of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Dr. John Nanfro will speak at the symposium about the drugs that are now available to help prolong the life of a breast cancer patient.

"You don't see these big symposiums too much for lung cancer or for anything else because breast cancer is a very large support mechanism of women who have had it and are friends become better friends through having it," Nanfro said.

The symposium will be held at Rivertown Community Church in Marianna on October 24 at 5:30 p.m.

There's no cost to attend. A light salad supper will be served.
