PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - C-SPAN'S state of the art 45 foot customized motor coach is making its way south on a top teachers tour and it made a stop in Panama City Tuesday.

The bus is visiting extraordinary teachers who were selected by their state Social Studies associations for their work through C-SPAN.

Eve Vankley, a seventh-grade Civics teacher at Bay Haven Charter Academy, is one of those extraordinary teachers.

Vankley said, "I applied for the resource program in Washington D.C. That was not this summer, but the summer before. I did it because when teaching civics it's really hard to get unbiased information from just watching news channels. That's just the nature of the business. So I was looking for some resource for my students where I could get unbiased, non-partisan information. So I started looking into C-SPAN so I could get that information for my students."

The interactive bus is full of technology aimed at piquing students' interest in civic affairs and it just may be what the kids need in a post-Hurricane Michael world.

Joel Bacon, a C-SPAN representative said, "We can show them a place to go to get information about what the government is doing about hurricane clean-up and things like that. So it's really important to us to show off our resources, especially at a time like this where government aid and FEMA are very important to the people who are here right now."

The C-SPAN bus has been traveling across the nation and visiting schools since 1993.
