Changes to VRBO concern some Walton County rental companies

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A company designed to help vacationers rent from owners is posing a threat to local bed tax collectors.

VRBO, or Vacation Rentals By Owners, is a website that helps bridge the gap between renters and owners.

As the company revamps its website and services, bed tax collectors, like property management companies, are worried they are being pushed out.

Tourist Development Council officials said one of the biggest concerns is customer service and how rental firms interact with visitors.

"That's being removed and actually replaced with outside call centers from the Untied States, so we really need our vacation rental firms to be able to represent our destination and not some outside entity," South Walton TDC Executive Director Jay Tusa said.

TDC officials will be hosting a public meeting February 21st at the South Annex Courthouse to discuss how they can help vacation rental firms in the area.
