Clearing up misconceptions about the measles virus, vaccine and outbreak

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - A health official with the Florida Department of Health in Bay County joined us in the studio to talk about the measles and misconceptions about the vaccine.

There are two reported cases in Florida because of international travel but there are no reported cases in our area.

Experts say the MMR vaccine is almost 100 percent effective and there are minimal side effects. Two doses of the vaccine act like a booster and are more for certain individuals.

The disease was eradicated but has made a comeback in recent history. While it is not in our area, experts say to be cautious when traveling this summer.
