Coast Guard calls off its search for missing swimmer

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: May 16, 2018 (2 p.m.)

With no reports of missing persons filed, the Coast Guard says it's ended its search for a reported person in the water near Panama City.

Coast Guard officials say they searched 998 miles for 26 hours.

Coast Guard Station Panama City says it received a report Monday evening of a swimmer seen struggling, submerging and not resurfacing near south Panama City Beach.
The Coast Guard continues to search for a swimmer after they went missing in the Gulf Monday night.

According to the Coast Guard Station Panama City, they received a report at 7:30 p.m. of a swimmer who was seen struggling in the Gulf off Panama City Beach. They say the person was not resurfacing.

Multiple agencies are involved in the search, including: Coast Guard Station Panama City Response Boat-Medium boatcrew, Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew, Coast Guard Cutter Kingfisher, and Florida Wildlife and Fisheries helicopter aircrew.
